#22/29 (from a series “Surveillance Camera”), 2020
Inga Levi
tempera painting, polystyrene foam

The Surveillance Camera series appeared as a method of overcoming/using/observing loneliness during self-isolation. The world, changed by the quarantine, began to resemble the paintings of Edward Hopper. But the sharpness of loneliness in the middle of the glass-fenced spaces of Hopper’s city has long since crumbled into a small visual pattern of high-rise windows.

Inga was born in 1986 in Kyiv. She studied book illustration at the Faculty of Publishing and Printing of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, worked with graphics and painting. She lives and works in Kyiv.

In the 2000s, Inga became interested in urban space, architecture and monumental art, which was reflected in her artistic practice as works with the urban landscape. In 2018–2019, she curated the mosaic works during the restoration of the fountain “Stars and Constellations” by Ada Rybachuk and Volodymyr Melnychenko at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth. In 2021, she continued this experience at the restoration of the monumental interior design of the Kyiv Central Bus Station, which was also created by Ada Rybachuk and Volodymyr Melnychenko. Since 2015, she has been a member of the group that preserves the photo archive of the Hutsul artist Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit. In 2021, Inga completed the Contemporary Art course at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts. In 2021, she became a scholarship holder of the Gaude Polonia programme in the field of Visual Art.
